Promoting money concepts to the wider community
In our recent research on money and debt management, it revealed that some people* rated themselves relatively low on their abilities to manage personal finance, including controlling expenses, having regular savings and accumulating wealth through investment.
To help more people better plan for and manage their money, the IEC participated in the community carnival organised by the HKFTU Occupational Retraining Employment Service Centre and sponsored by the Yuen Long District Council in May 2014.
The carnival included a game booth aiming to educate both parents and children about the concept of building and accumulating wealth through a step-by-step financial planning pyramid. During the three-hour activity, some 100 residents from Tin Shui Wai participated in our booth.
*This group dominated by those with lower levels of formal education and income.
