19 June 2024

The Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC) today published its Annual Report 2023-2024 that reviews its work and activities in enhancing investor and financial education in Hong Kong.

Themed “Secure Your Financial Future”, the report summarises IFEC’s public education and digital-led initiatives in a bid to enhance investor and financial education for the public as well as to various target segments, highlighting the importance of wise investment and prudent financial management to secure one’s financial future.

IFEC Chairman Mr Victor Dawes said, “During the year, the IFEC has made significant progress in its mission. The establishment of the IFEC FinEd Hub (the Hub) in March 2024 as Hong Kong’s first digital experiential learning centre for investor and financial education was an important milestone in our journey to advance digital financial education in Hong Kong. We are committed to continue our mission to equip people in Hong Kong with the knowledge, attitude and skills necessary for making informed investment and financial decisions in managing money wisely.”

Highlights of the year include:

  • Advancing digital financial literacy: Hong Kong ranked first among the 27 economies participated in the newly introduced survey on digital financial literacy in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE) 2023 International Survey of Adult Financial Literacy.
  • Accelerating digital financial education: The Hub, Hong Kong’s first digital experiential learning centre for investor and financial education located at The Mills in Tsuen Wan, was launched in March 2024. Through an array of engaging contents, immersive experience and interactive games incorporating key investor and financial education messages, participants can visit the Hub free-of-charge by booking in advance through the IFEC website to explore themes such as money management, anti-financial scams and investment fundamentals.
  • Cross-sectoral collaboration: The Investor and Financial Education Award 2023 was launched in September 2023 to recognise the efforts of stakeholders from various sectors in advancing investor and financial education in Hong Kong. A total of 32 organisations and individuals received the awards this year for their outstanding contributions.

IFEC General Manager Ms Dora Li said, “In a year of economic uncertainty and increasing number of online financial scams, IFEC has stepped up our efforts across multiple touchpoints with public campaigns, digital tools, social media and targeted education programmes in a bid to alert the public and drive positive changes in attitude and behaviour towards investing and financial management. Collaborating with our local and global partners is also vital in our work. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our stakeholders for their valuable support throughout the year.”
